This is the first Studebaker we have featured as Hot Rod of the Week on Hotrodders.com
This is a 1954 Studebaker Regal Commander Conestoga, owned by Jake Zachry of Dayton, Nevada. It is one of only 1,912 produced, and was built by Jake and his father in their garage.
This supercharged Avanti R2 289 V8 engine has KB pistons, an Erson cam, and a Carter 625 cfm 4-barrel carb. It hooks to a Borg-Warner T-86 3-speed overdrive transmission, and a Dana 44, 4.27 twin traction rear end. It even has an airbag suspension system, built using all Studebaker suspension parts. Says Jake "the air ride is not so I can have the lowest car at the show, it is so I can raise my car to get up the 2 miles of rough dirt road to my home".
Fuzzy dice complete the clean interior.
Ya gotta start somewhere!
