Sliding Window Channel

Postby uncletom » 2013 Jul 16 Tue 5:03 pm

:?: Can I use the readily-available, low-cost, plastic window channel for the sliding glass ?
It is flexible (comes in a 25' roll) and will not rust.
The stainless-trimmed channel only comes in very-expensive 6' length.
The original rubber-trimmed channel has rusted completely away due to clogged drainage holes.
I think replacing the metal channel with the rust-proof plastic channel makes sense.
Unlike the door-window channel, it does not have to tightly support the glass,,, it simply keeps it from rattling.
New drainage slots will be drilled at each end of the channel.
Comments are appreciated.

Since on one hand, don't know, never seen or heard the part you are talking about....on the other hand, if the measurements are the same and it will hold the window solidly, I don't see why not.

Where is this plastic material available from ? I need it for two cars..!

Thanks

Look in the 'all rubber' category @ http://stanpro.com/windowchannels.aspx#available
Other manufacturers offer 'vinyl/rubber' and 'all vinyl' and even 'space-age materials'
I found one that ships a 25' spool ,,, which saves a bundle of shipping $$$ over something in a 6' tube !

Uncle -

Actually, it looks like there is a piece of metal (stainless ?) in that material. It does look interesting.
I may give them a call myself.

Thanks for the heads-up (question!).
