Conestoga Production Numbers

Postby hi-per al » 2005 Nov 30 Wed 12:00 am

I am wondering if any of you folks could help me find a detailed breakdown for 1954 and 1955 Conestoga production.

Champs, Commanders, Regal, Deluxe, Ultra Vista, Ambulet and so on.

The only references that I have found only give yearly production totals.

FYI..........DOMESTIC.......CANADA.......EXPORT........TOTAL

1954.......10,651..............217..............906............11,744

1955.......10,735..............88................862............11,685

Any help out there? Thanx............Al

HERE IS PART OF THE ANSWER COURTESY OF MR. BIGGS FROM THE STUDEBAKERS DRIVERS SITE.

Here's the numbers from Fred Fox's article about the 54s. This is from the August '86 edition of TW.

Champions
15G-D3 - 3,910 total
15G-D5 - 3,074 total

Commanders
5H-D3 - 1,912
5H-D5 - 2,878

total54wagons 11,774

1955 model wagons

Champions
16G6-D3&D4 (that's flat winshield and Ultra-vista combined) 3,517
16G6-D5&D6 " " " " " " " 1,372

Commanders
16G8-D3&D4 " " " " " " " 4,280
16G8-D5&D6 " " " " " " " 2,516

Total 55 wagons built 11,685

At least at the time of writing about the 55 models in the Feb '94 edition of TW, it appears Fred didn't have a breakdown of production numbers that reflected flat windshield cars vs. Ultra-vista models. But at least these figures show a breakdown with respect to trim level.

Many Thanx Mr. Biggs

Now to find out how many Ultra Vista Conestogas were made. HMMMMMM

I guess I should explain why I am interested in these statistics. I have been asked by the biggest newspaper in Edmonton, Alberta if they can do a feature on my Conestoga for thier Christmas "Wheels" section. They have also asked me for as much detail as I can come up with as to the history of the Ultra Vista Conestoga. If any of you can share some other interesting trivia about this model I would surely appreciate it. Thanx...Al
