My "driver" Conestoga

Postby Mike » 2024 Jun 27 Thu 10:57 pm

Well, FINALLY, after years of sitting, partially complete, with the help of another, the wiring is finally getting done.
It's all new, headlights to tail lights. Everything under the dash, yeah, the entire car. It's about 1/3rd complete right now. Kinda slow going in the summer heat. Just working mornings to keep from over heating.
The most difficult parts will be the ignition. I did a custom ignition back when I started the project. Now, I need to remember what the plan was..!

Then it'll be up to me to finish the exhaust system.

Actually looking forward to driving the car.

The wiring is about 80% complete.
The guy helping me will be out of town for three and a half to four weeks, so no "major" work will get done. But I can run the power cables from the battery to the fuse box, the battery cables to the solenoid and ground (battery under the back seat). I'll run the alternator power cable to the main cut-off switch. MAybe a few other non-essential things that I can do without doing any damage !

The wiring task is about 99% complete. A couple of things that I need to finish, then we will be...testing the system the end of the week.
Finally...

Now I need to get onto the exhaust, and complete that task.
Need to know how to split my time between working on two cars now !

Finally, after years of sitting dormant, my wagon is one step closer to running.

The rewire is complete. All circuits tested twice, all working. Well, all but it seems that the starter doesn't want to spin. The engine is free to rotate, but the starter solenoid just clicks, power is to the output cable, but no rotate. Will look into that at a later date.

One major hurdle complete.
Next is the exhaust system. I think I can handle that. I have a bunch of tubing, and mufflers ready to go.

I'm going back and redoing a few things that my "hired" guy did. While he did a decent job overall, I'm redoing, rearranging various wires and groups of wires to clean up the under dash. I did the under hood while he was doing the interior of the car. Combed the wires clean and straight and then cable wrapped the wire runs to wire tie brackets that I screwed to the inner fenders. Most on the left side, the alternator charge wire on the right side.
Seems he put enough cable ties to weigh about two pounds ! I've removed some, still need to remove a bunch more. NO...need for that many.
