Hey Main -
Well, there's a couple of ways.
1 - If you are "replacing" the socket - a small sharp chisel or screwdriver and a light hammer will do the job quickly. Just put the sharp edge between the socket flange and the housing, then tap on the chisel to open or push the flange toward the center of the socket. Go all the way around until it falls out.
Took me about 2-1/2 minutes. No damage to the housing.
2 - If you want to keep the socket. Then you have to get behind the socket, and tap it out toward the front with a hammer. Friction is all that holds it in place.
Unfortunately, I musta looked at 15 different, 1157 sockets yesterday, only one seemed even close. I took it home, it's a little too small to fit tightly !! Will have to keep looking.
I found a bad thing. I've bought some electrical parts from Stude vendors. Some have been marginal, and some not even usable . Out of six or seven items that I bought from a known Stude vendor, only two were usable without extra work.
Just a heads-up !
Just be sure that you have a free return policy with anything that you buy.
